Josh’s Top 5 Carbohydrate Foods

Before I reveal those foods, first a little lesson on carb digestion that you may not know…
Carbohydrates move from your stomach to your small intestine where they are further broken down and the nutrients are absorbed. Starches from the carbs are broken down into glucose that is transported to your blood.
This causes a rise in blood sugar, which results in your pancreas producing insulin to take that glucose to the cells in your body.
It is either used as fuel or stored as fat. This may be a stretch, but I am going to assume you prefer your glucose to be used as fuel. (If not, we may need to talk…)
When you digest complex carbs that are low on something called the Glycemic Index (a rating system for the speed carbs are digested), the starches have to work their way through the fiber in the food before they can be absorbed into your bloodstream and converted into sugar.
Picture it as though you’re trying to walk through a densely wooded, overgrown forest. The more vines, weeds and branches you encounter, the slower you have to go to get to the other side.
And while that might get on your nerves quick if you’re out hiking, it is a good thing where carbohydrates are concerned because it means the energy you get from your food is slowly released over a longer period of time.
If your blood sugar stays stable, there’s not a massive insulin release and glucose doesn’t get stored as flab as easily. Instead, it’s more likely to be stored as energy in your muscle tissue. Score!
To that end, here are some of the best “slow-digesting” complex carbs to eat…
Top 5 Carbohydrate Foods:
5. Asparagus
Asparagus is a special treat that can be roasted, steamed, sautéed, added to salads and eaten as a side dish or even a main dish. Asparagus has a Glycemic Index of only 15. Anything under 50 is considered low, and low is good because it means it takes longer for your body to digest thanks to fiber.
Fiber is what makes you feel full longer, which is certainly helpful to keep the munchies at bay. As we spoke about, fiber also slows the absorption of starches into your blood. Adequate fiber in your diet lowers your risk of heart disease, cancer, diabetes and diverticulitis.1,2,3,4 And because of its munchie-curing ability, it also helps you lose weight.
4. Cabbage
Cabbage is so versatile, you can enjoy it cooked or raw. It is low in calories as well as being low GI with a rating of 15. It is also high in fiber and vitamin C, and as a member of the cruciferous family of vegetables, cabbage has cancer and environmental estrogen-fighting properties, too.
3. Broccoli
Another high-fiber, cruciferous vegetable that is a 15 on the GI… Are you seeing a trend here? Broccoli has lots of vitamins like beta-carotene and vitamin K. There is also evidence that it can fight cancer because it is rich in phytochemicals called isothiocyanates.5
Better still, one study also found that eating 1-2 cups of cruciferous veggies a day lowers levels of oxidative stress (linked to cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and rheumatoid arthritis) by 22%.6
2. Spinach
Spinach and most other leafy greens also have a low GI score of 15. Spinach is high in iron, calcium, B vitamins, and antioxidants. If you don’t like it cooked, add it raw to your salads! Spinach is truly a superfood, full of at least 13 different phytochemicals that benefit your heart, brain, eyes and bones, and fight of damaging inflammation.
1. Beans
Beans, lentils and peas are known as legumes.7 Legumes, nuts and seeds are high in protein and fiber while still having a low score on the Glycemic Index. Take chickpeas for example. They rank lower than all the vegetables above, with a 10 on the GI – and studies have found they help lower bad cholesterol, too. Peanuts are only a 7! All are versatile and can be prepared in endless ways, giving you steady energy, keeping you full and satisfying your appetite throughout the day without sabotaging your health.
So as you can see, you really have lots of options. By swapping your sugary snacks for a few of these healthy carbs, you’ll give your body the energy and vitamins it needs to function optimally, without driving your insulin levels up out of control. So eat up and watch the pounds melt away… without hunger.
To a healthier you!

Don't Trust the Skinny Cow! by Josh Bezoni

It’s like summer here in Austin, Texas. Today is 85 degrees and life is good. In fact, it’s so good that yesterday after work I took a break with a friend to go jet skiing on Lake Travis. After a few hours of fun in the sun we got back to the marina and we were both extremely hungry (I should have brought a snack along with me but forgot). Inside the marina there is a convenience store and my friend said he wanted a healthy treat because we had been “working” so hard that afternoon. He reached inside the frozen food case and pulled out a Skinny Cow vanilla ice cream sandwich made by Nestle .
He looked at me and said, “Hey this is healthy. It’s only got 140 calories, 1.5 grams of fat and 3 grams of fiber. It says it right here on the label.” However, upon further review of the back of the label (there was a convenient fold covering up all of the unflattering nutrition information) this small ice cream sandwich is STUFFED with chemicals I call obesity additives. Here are the whopping 33 ingredients and my comments after some of them: 1. Skim milk 2. Bleached wheat flour (acts like sugar in the body) 3. Sugar (the main cause of belly fat) 4. Caramel color (the same junk they color soft drinks with) 5. Dextrose (sugar) 6. Palm oil 7. Corn flour 8. High fructose corn syrup (causes extreme cravings) 9. Corn syrup (ditto) 10. Baking soda 11. Modified corn starch 12. Mono and diglycerides 13. Soy lecithin (much of this has MSG hidden in it) 14. Cocoa 15. Sugar (again) 16. Corn syrup (again) 17. Polydextrose (sugar) 18. Whey protein 19. Cream 20. Calcium carbonate 21. Inulin 22. Natural flavor (this is a joke considering all the unnatural flavors) 23. Propylene glycol monostearate (ugh… more on this below) 24. Microcrystalline cellulose 25. Sodium carboxymethylcellulose (that’s a mouthful) 26. Guar gum 27. Monoglycerides 28. Sorbitol (a sugar alcohol) 29. Carob bean gum 30. Citric acid 31. Vitamin A palmitate 32. Carrageenan (a seaweed extract) 33. Salt So as you can see, this may be a low fat ice cream sandwich, but don’t think for a second that this “Skinny Cow” is a healthy food choice that’s going to help you or your family lose flab. This is a nutrient dead “Frankenfood.” By this I mean that it’s not even a real food, it’s just a chemically-altered food-like substance. They should call it “dead meat” instead of “skinny cow”. And it gets worse: Propylene Glycol Monostearate (ingredient #23) is found… • As a working fluid in hydraulic presses • As a coolant in liquid cooling systems • To regulate humidity in a cigar humidor • As the killing and preserving agent in pitfall traps, usually used to capture ground beetles • As an additive to pipe tobacco to prevent dehydration • To treat livestock ketosis • As the main ingredient in deodorant sticks • As a solvent used in mixing photographic chemicals, such as film developers • As an ingredient in the production of paintballs Source: Wikipedia.com The College of Health and Human Sciences at Oregon State says this about propylene glycol monostearate: “Slightly more toxic than propylene glycol in animals, and in large doses produces central nervous system depression and kidney injury." Josh's Top Protein Foods

Here is another article from my coach Josh Bezoni,
PLUS! Don't forget to read my latest article on She Budgets. (just click the box on your right!)

Today I want to talk about my Thermal Burn Technique to burn a LOT more calories during the day—I’m talking about up to 30% more calories from some foods. I also want to reveal my top 55 high-protein foods.

My Thermal Burn Technique works like this: Nutrient-dense foods tend to be more complex. Take proteins, for instance. It takes more energy for your body to digest and use proteins than it does for simpler foods like sugars. The thermic effect of protein is the highest of all foods.

After eating protein, your metabolic rate will increase by approximately 30 percent. In other words, if you eat 100 calories of protein, 30 of those will be burned just digesting and using the protein. By comparison, the thermic effect of carbohydrates is typically around 10 percent, and fat is just 5 percent.

Proteins are primarily used as our body's— building blocks. They are most abundant in animal products—lean meats, egg whites, and low-fat cottage cheese are great protein sources. (Protein is also found, to a lesser degree, in beans, nuts, and various grains for you vegetarians out there.) Proteins are found in every cell in our bodies. Our muscles, hair, skin, nails, hormones, and blood all contain protein. And protein is extremely important both to our overall immunity and health.

Protein is also an extremely important (but often overlooked) fat-loss nutrient. Why? Proteins (along with resistance exercise) actually help your body change shape by adding muscle and increasing your metabolism. Remember, the point isn’t just to lose weight. The point is to lose fat, and increase muscle.

Now the point isn’t to eat a diet of all protein, not at all. My point is NOT to skip protein as part of each meal.

With all is this in mind, here are my top recommended high-protein foods. Please be sure to choose grass feed beef, cage-free chicken meat and eggs, and other organic meats whenever possible to avoid hormones and other unnatural additives.

Hope you enjoyed this information!

Drink This To Help Your Fat Burner!

(This Article is direct to you from Josh Bezoni)

Next to water, tea is the second most popular beverage around the globe. So, not too long ago, I did some research into the health and weight loss benefits of drinking different kinds of tea.

Although the organic coffee I was drinking was loaded with antioxidants and other healthy compounds, I was looking for a lower caffeine alternative because too much caffeine makes me nervous and triggers cravings.

I discovered that tea not only contains less than half of the caffeine of coffee, but each cup is brimming with an array of health benefits.

But not all teas are created equal.

Let’s take a look at the 4 most popular teas and the positive effect they can have on our health (and on weight loss).

1. Black Tea

Black tea is one of the most popular types of teas and can be enjoyed as a hot or cold beverage.

Black tea contains roughly 3% caffeine. This is a higher level of caffeine than in any other teas. In comparison to coffee’s 9%, this is still relatively low.

These low levels of caffeine can boost your health by improving thinking and increasing alertness. The caffeine also acts as a diuretic to flush out excess water. Moderate caffeine intake can boost the metabolism, also aiding in weight loss.

The large amount of antioxidants in black tea can help prevent heart disease and certain types of cancers. By consuming tea regularly, research indicates that women can cut their risk of developing ovarian cancer in half.

Grade:

Health: B+

Weight loss: B

Try black tea hot with a squeeze of lemon and some natural stevia sweetener. Brew 1 teaspoon of loose black tea leaves in 8 ounces of hot water and allow it to steep for 2-3 minutes. Try adding some some boiled orange peels and cloves.

When I’m in the mood for a glass of iced black tea, I double the amount of tea used. I add a spoonful of stevia and let the steeped tea cool to room temperature, then pour it over some ice. Add a lemon wedge and you have a refreshing cup of iced tea.

2. White Tea

The polar opposite to black tea is white tea. White tea is the youngest of all the teas, with the leaves being picked before they have had a chance to open completely. This process preserves the maximum amount of antioxidants and the health benefits are nearly tripled.

One cup of white tea contains more healthy properties than a serving of vegetables. It has a light taste that is both fruity and sweet.

Grade:

Health: A

Weight loss: B

When preparing it hot, add 1.5 teaspoons loose tea leaves to 8 ounces of hot water and steep for 4-5 minutes. Because it is such a sweet tasting tea, I drink mine without any added sweeteners. When I make a glass of iced white tea, I sometimes add a few mixed berries to really bring out that fruity flavor.

3. Green Tea

Green tea is probably the most talked about tea in natural health circles. Green tea is less processed than black tea. Less processing means a higher concentration of antioxidants. One antioxidant in particular, the polyphenol EGCG, is responsible for the powerful health benefits associated with green tea.

EGCG in green tea is an antioxidant that targets free radicals and helps to eliminate them from the body. Free radicals are the toxins that circulate in the body, contributing to cancer, blood clots and cellular damage.

Studies indicate that the EGCG in green tea can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol and slow the aging process.

Of all the teas, green tea is the most commonly associated with weight loss and fat burn.

Why? The catechins.

Catechins are antioxidants found in green tea that encourage the body to burn fat for energy. Catechins are also responsible for the slower release of carbohydrates into the body after eating, which helps to keep insulin levels in check. When insulin levels are balanced, the body can burn fat more efficiently.

If you have never had a cup of green tea before, I should warn you that the taste may be overwhelming at first. With a strong, grassy flavor, green tea can take some getting used to.

Grade:

Health: A

Weight loss: B+

Brew 1 teaspoon of loose tea leaves in 8 ounces of water and steep for one minute. To help with the strong flavor of green tea, I sometimes add some freshly squeezed lemon, stevia, and a splash of lime or grapefruit juice. Citrus juice helps boost the antioxidant properties of the tea, so you get added health benefits too.

But I’ve saved the best for last…

4. Oolong/Wu-long Tea

I was surprised to learn that Oolong tea has the same health benefits of green tea, but with the ability to burn up to 220% more fat.

According to several studies in China, researchers have found that people who drink 2-3 cups of Oolong tea per day will experience weight loss at an 8% higher rate than those who drink green or black teas.

Oolong tea is even less processed than green tea, which means it has a higher level of catechins that encourage the body to burn even more fat for energy.

Oolong tea still contains all of the same health benefits found in black and green tea, just with an added fat burning bonus.

The flowery flavor of Oolong tea makes it a versatile tea that tastes good hot or cold. Because the flavor is not as strong as green and black teas, I usually don’t add any sweeteners.

Grade:

Health: A

Weight loss: A

Now before you go out and buy Oolong tea, you must know that all Oolong is not created equal – in fact far from it.

It turns out that there is a very special strand of Oolong called Wu-Long that is grown in the WuYi mountains at a very high altitude. Because of the high altitude, the yield is lower on the actual plants – but what this does is concentrate the polyphenol content of the tea (the part that burns fat), so that…

Each cup of this special Oolong tea burns over 2.5 times more fat than any other strand of Oolong.

This means it would take 5 cups of any other type of Oolong to equal two cups of Wu-Long.

This is why this is the only strand of Oolong considered, “medical grade” in China.

And there is only one way to get this tea outside of going to China yourself, and that is through a company called Okuma. They have exclusive marketing rights to sell this tea outside of China – so anyone else claiming that they supply this tea is simply not being accurate with the truth.

A Pretty Good Deal

Recently I made contact with Okuma because I wanted some of their tea for myself and I knew my readers would be as excited as I am …

They are good folks and agreed to offer my readers Free Domestic Shipping with a lifetime guarantee on each order.

I think giving this tea a try is simply a no brainer to help boost your health and weight loss:

Don't pull that trigger! Coach Josh's newsletter

I get a lot of questions from my loyal readers about what I think is the absolute WORST food of all time.

Is it Twinkies? Maybe McDonald's French fries? Biscuits and gravy? Soft drinks stuffed with high fructose corn syrup? Lard? Cheese-stuffed crust on a meat lovers pizza? (Really? We need cheese in the crust, too?)

Hmm... although all of these foods are at the top of my "bad" list, they aren't the WORST.

Nope. The worst food ever is ... drum roll please ... any food that you can't stop eating. (That's so important take a moment to read that sentence again.) I'm talking about your personal "trigger foods." You know, that one food that you'll eat until you make yourself sick.

For me it's ice cream. For others it's chocolate or something crunchy and salty like chips.

If it's in my house ... I'll come up with dozens of excuses on why it's okay to eat it. "I'll workout extra hard tomorrow." Or, "I ate really healthy today so it's okay to cheat." Or, "I don't care ... give me that darn ice cream scooper!" =)

The key to getting (and keeping a flat belly) is recognizing these trigger foods and keeping them OUT OF YOUR HOUSE.

Really. This tip alone can save you thousands of calories every week.

So today's take home message is this: make a list of your top three trigger foods and "send them packin'."

Deal? I hope so.

Best!

Coach Josh

So, If you know me, you know my trigger is PIZZA. This is how my vicious cycle works: I eat pizza, at least 3 slices Then I want something sweet, cookies or icecream. Then I want another slice of pizza... What is your trigger?

Been Busy at Work

But I thought I would get on to tell you how things are going. This new 30 day challenge I am doing on bodyrock.tv is different. This week is bun workouts (though, when I am done, my whole body feels it, so don't let the name fool you!)
I love those before and afters, but I still haven't changed the scale. Hmmm
So this week, I am trying something a little different to shake things up.
I am not going to tell you what it is until I see if it works, cuz how silly would it be to tell you to try something that doesn't work?
I have some more Josh Bezoni newsletters to post for you, they will be coming soon.
Oh, I am a Cha Cha vetter now, so ask some questions people!!
have a great night,
talk at you all tomorrow!

food, food, food

Whether you are trying to get healthy, or lose a few pounds, you need to realize first off that this is not your typical "diet" where you cut out foods, or drink yourself silly, or give up food altogether for a few weeks and then you are done.
THIS IS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE. SOMETHING THAT WILL HELP YOU THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

My tips mostly come from Belly Fat Free, by Josh Bezoni. I will find the link to get his book here in just a minute. I met Josh and his "students" in 2007 and knew this was the only way to go for me. Did you notice? I said "for me" not for you, or for everyone. You have to do what is right for you and your body and your health conditions.
1.clean our your cupboards!
read your labels and throw out sugary foods, salty snacks, anything with trans fat, hydrogenated oils, enriched flours, artificial colors/flavors, anything ending with 'ose. (sucrose, glucose, sucralose)We call these "obesity additives" What's left? You may ask. Real food, the way God made it, fresh, organic good-for-you food.
2. eat a little meal, (mini meal) every 3 hours.
Include some protein and good carbs, (vegies, whole grains)
3. move everyday.
4. have a cheat meal once a week
5. find your "trigger" foods and eliminate them, or at least limit them to your cheat meal.
6. if you are truly trying to lose weight, only weigh in once a week.
That scale can make you eat if you are emotional about it. Stay Away!

Contact support2@7daybellyblastdiet.com if you would like to purchase a copy of Josh's book, I get nothing in return for your buying, I just want to share my success. (but I am in the book, I think I am the last chapter)

let me know what you think of all this...

6 Weird Ways to Crush Cravings/Notes from Josh

Some of these are a little “wacky”… but boy oh boy do they work!

Weird Way #1: Brush your teeth.

Believe it or not, brushing your teeth actually kills cravings. I don’t know a scientific reason for this, but I know from experience that after I “scrub my choppers” I lose the desire to eat. What’s more, food tastes strange right after brushing—probably because ingredients in the toothpaste bind to the sugar receptors in the mouth—so I tend to lose my appetite. (Be sure to brush your tongue and inside your cheeks and the roof of your mouth for an even stronger effect.)

Weird Way #2: Drink like a fish.

Many people battle “false food cravings” that are really THIRST cravings. (So True) Many times your brain detects that you are low on water and it sends out a craving signal for you to drink more water, but this signal is misinterpreted as hunger.

Divide your bodyweight in half and drink that many ounces of water each day. For example, I weigh 180 pounds so I shoot for 90 ounces of water consumption each day. It helps to fight cravings in a big way. Try it!

Weird Way #3: Sniff peanut butter.

Studies have shown that when research subjects sniffed peanut butter or peppermint extract their cravings dramatically reduced. The reason, these smells my cause the brain to release certain neurotransmitters responsible for controlling hunger. Sniff and get slim… weird, huh?

Weird Way #4: Sleep like a baby.

Exhaustion makes cowards of us all. There are countless stories of men and women who were experiencing great weightloss results until they ran themselves ragged, got overly hungry, and woke up 10 pounds heavier with a slew of empty pizza boxes surrounding them. Make rest a priority. I suggest at least eight hours a night and moments of planned relaxation throughout the day.

Weird Way #5: Chew gum.

I don’t know why it works exactly… but popping some sugarless chewing gum when I get a craving almost instantly calms my cravings. I do this after a meal, too, when I’m craving something sweet for dessert.

Weird Way #6: Eat more fiber.

Did you know that fiber (along with fats and proteins) fights cravings by slowing down the absorption of sugar in the body? Yep…Shoot for 30 or more grams of fiber per day to kill cravings.

Here are some of my favorite high-fiber foods:
• Barley has 12 grams per 1/2 cup
• Beans like black beans, navy beans, refried, and lima beans all have 6 or more grams per 1/2 cup
• Bran cereal has 13 grams per 1/3 to 1/2 cup
• Peas have more than 9 grams per 1/2 cup
• Strawberries have 4 grams per cup and raspberries have more than 5, and blackberries have more than 7 grams
• Broccoli has 7 grams per 3/4 cooked cup
• Oatmeal has 7 grams per 3/4 cup
• Apples have 4 grams of fiber in the form of pectin
Add a few of these tricks to your day to get your cravings under control.

Josh's tips for eating out

Make This 1 Food Swap When Eating Out
By Coach Josh Under Nutrition Tips
I’m in Vegas on business and there is “bad” food everywhere. Talk about Sin City—pizza, ice cream, burgers and HUGE portions have taken over this place.

But I’m not going to let a little travel get in the way of my flat belly goals (I’m really on a roll lately), so here’s what I’m doing to keep things healthy while on the road:

1.Go grocery shopping. Right off the plane I made a pit stop at an organic grocery store to load up on healthy foods for my hotel room. I’m talking about apples, almond butter, string cheese, lunch meat, almond milk, veggies, hummus, protein powder and my own trail mix with almonds, pistachios, walnuts, dried cherries and pumpkin seeds. Yum! (I carry this trail mix with me everywhere in case I get hungry.)
2.Ditch the mini-bar. I called the hotel ahead of time and asked them to remove all the junk food from my room and to clean out the mini-bar refrigerator so I could use it for my food. Why put yourself through that kind of temptation? One moment of bad judgment can result in an extra 1000 calories on your belly. (Believe me, I know.)
3.Pass on the dinner rolls. While dining out I tell the waiter to skip the bread before my meal (save hundreds of calories right there) and to bring out a dinner salad instead.
4.Make this 1 food swap when eating out. I swap out any “heavy carbs” that come with my meal (piles of potatoes, rice, breads, pastas) for extra veggies or a dinner salad. “Hold the heavy carbs, add extra protein and veggies” will prevent a lot of belly fat when dinning out—easily 1000 calories. It’s a simple yet effective swap.
5.Fruit for dessert. I love something sweet after dinner, but I’m skipping the 750 calorie cheese cake for a bowl of mixed berries with a dab of real whipped cream. It hits the spot.
6.Find a safe haven. I found this little organic food joint in a nearby hotel and I’m eating as many of my meals from there as I can schedule. Grass fed beef, eggs from free range chickens, wholesome fruits and veggies… it’s my little safe haven in Sin City.
7.Cheat meal. I’ve got one big cheat meal planned for this 4-day trip and I can’t wait. I’m going to hit up a little pizza place I’ve been eye-balling over the last few days. Cheat meals are really important both mentally and physically (an occasional increase in calories can boost metabolism) so things don’t get too monotonous.
Well, back to my meetings. Talk to you soon!

Going Shopping, with Coach Josh

In my book, Belly Fat Free, I expose the shady food manufacturers and corporate machines that have created the unnatural “Franken foods” that are addicting us and our children.

It’s important for you to know right now that some food additives are making you fat in three different ways:

1.Two of these obesity additives interfere with a hormone called leptin that tells the brain we are full while eating.

2.Other obesity additives add fat by changing how our bodies use the calories we eat. They do this by increasing a fat-storing hormone called insulin. When this happens, calories are converted to fat instead of being stored as “muscle energy.” This leads to fat deposits in all of our trouble areas—like under the chin, the backs of the arms, the belly, and the lower body.

3.Still other obesity additives actually make us addicted to them and cause us to eat uncontrollably. They do this by altering brain chemicals called neurotransmitters—just like a highly addictive drug does.
Therefore, here are the top 7 additives that I recommend removing from your diet as much as you can:

1.Stripped Carbohydrates (listed as sugar, flour, enriched white flour, white flour, enriched bleached flour, enriched wheat flour, wheat flour, semolina flour, white rice, maltodextrin, glucose, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), fructose, sucrose, dextrose, and levulose)

2.Artificial Sweeteners (listed as NutraSweet (aspartame), Sunette (acesulfame K), and Sweet ‘N Low (saccharin)

3.Added Caffeine in soft drinks and energy drinks (a few cups of green tea or coffee each day are fine)

4.Trans Fats (also listed as partially hydrogenated oils)

5.MSG (also labeled as monosodium glutamate)

6.Excess Alcohol (if you must, one to two drinks per week)

7.Excess Salt/Sodium in chips, crackers, canned food items, pickles, various cheeses, pretzels, condiments, and salted nuts.
In this article, I go through the aisles of the grocery store and show you good and bad choices for some of today’s most popular condiments.

Now, Let’s Go Grocery Shopping!

These condiments are great choices if you want a beer belly. Kroger and Lawry’s Marinades contain high fructose corn syrup as does Hunt’s Tomato Ketchup (so does the original Heinz 57). Kraft’s Light Asian Toasted Sesame Reduced Fat Dressing and their Thick N Spicy Barbecue Sauce also contain MSG and Hidden Valley’s Ranch Dressing also contains a hefty dose of MSG.

Heinz Organic Tomato Ketchup is a great choice over the original because it doesn’t contain high fructose corn syrup. When it comes to barbecue sauce, make sure you choose a flavor or a version or a brand that doesn’t have high fructose corn syrup or MSG in it. Curley’s Famous Hot and Spicy Barbecue Sauce is a great example. When it comes to salad dressings, make sure you choose a low sugar version that doesn’t contain high fructose corn syrup. Newman’s Own has a lot of salad dressings that fit the bill. You can also always use olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette as a great choice for dressing salads.

Kikkoman’s Natural Soy Sauce contains a whopping 920 mg per tablespoon of sodium compared to their less sodium version which has 575 mg, close to half.

Prego’s Italian Sauce Traditional has 10 g of sugar per half cup while Lucini’s Hearty Artichoke Tomato Sauce has only 230 mg of sodium and less than 1 gram of sugar.

This photo shows Old El Paso Taco Seasoning on the left which contains hydrogenated oils (avoid). On the right is McCormick’s Original Taco Seasoning which doesn’t.

When it comes to the obesity additive sodium (salt), making better choices like choosing the low sodium versions of certain foods is a great idea. For example, McCormick Original Taco Seasoning has 430 mg of sodium while the reduced sodium version has only 300 mg. I bet you can’t tell the difference when you eat it.

Miracle Whip fat-free dressing contains high fructose corn syrup as its second ingredient while Whole Foods 365 Light mayonnaise contains no high fructose corn syrup. Look for mayonnaise that uses olive oil instead of canola oil, too.

Instead of going with the Reduced Fat (or regular) Jif Peanut Butter that’s full of hydrogenated oil and corn syrup solids, go with Smucker’s Natural Peanut Butter that contains two simple ingredients, peanuts and salt. What’s more, instead of buying Welch’s Concord Grape Jelly which has 13 g of sugar per tablespoon, you can choose Welch’s Reduced Sugar Concord Grape Jelly which has just 5 g of sugar and no artificial flavors or sweeteners.

This photo shows an example of household products that have hidden obesity additives in them. For example, the Pillsbury moist supreme classic yellow premium cake mix has hydrogenated oil, while Kraft oven-fried extra crispy chicken mix/ has MSG, and Knorr vegetable recipe mix also has hydrogenated oil.

To your health and happiness!

Coach Josh Newsleter

(just a note, I personally know these people, they are real, I myself am in some of Josh's newsletters, and his book.)

If your flat-belly efforts have come to a screeching halt and you feel stuck… maybe you could use a hefty dose of inspiration to get you back on track?

If so, today I wanted to share two of my "flat-belly success stories" with you that are sure to give you that motivational spark you need.

Tina: A Mother Fights for Her Children

Tina White, a 35-year-old mother of two, had tried many different diets over the years, and she was wary of being let down yet again. The last thing she needed was another disappointment.

Then, one day, she looked at her 10-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter, and it hit her like a Mack truck. Her children were following in her footsteps and, from the looks of things, that meant they were on the road to becoming very unhappy with their bodies.

Scared, Tina knew she had to take action to prevent her children from falling victim to a fat lifestyle. It was time to stop procrastinating and to start getting her family on a healthier path.

It didn't take long to discover that The BellyFatFree Program was different from all the diets Tina had tried in the past. She explains, "What I love about the program is that it's not overwhelming, it's not too strict, and it's very easy … even with a busy schedule like mine. The ugly fat melts off, and people can't help but notice the wonderful changes."

Tina's friends can't get over how great she looks, and there's a good reason why. According to the scale, Tina lost 35 pounds and her love handles vanished (not to mention those 30 inches that melted off). Best of all, Tina knows that she's now setting a good example for her children, not to mention that her relationship with her husband Neil has never been stronger.

Mark: "I Finally Have a Life Again."

Mark began following The BellyFatFree program when he was at a dangerously obese 361 pounds.

In record time, Mark lost 110 pounds, without dangerous prescription drugs or risky weight loss reduction surgery.

For Mark, the last straw was "When I had to buy size 56 pants, and the belt to go with them. I was really depressed. I just made a mental picture in my mind that I was going to be in one of those photos where I put on the 'fat pants' and showed the progress!"

Looking back, Mark feels that he was absolutely "dying of fat" before he made the decision to change. He says, "I really felt like if I did not change, I would be dead very soon. I hated myself. I would wait until dark to take the garbage out because I was embarrassed to be seen."

Well, that's all changed. Now Mark finds staying at home boring, so you're more likely to find him hitting the open road (he put 7,000 miles on his Harley Davidson motorcycle this past year!), and he laughs about saving money on gasoline now that he's 110 pounds lighter. "Sometimes I think of so many things to do that I run out of time," Mark says. "I am not used to having all this energy. Life really is wonderful!"
